Michael James Olson is a composer and media artist currently residing in Indiana. His work focuses on the intersection of traditional instrumentation with various media such as video, interactive electronics, and multi-channel audio. Michael’s music has been performed throughout the world, including the International Computer Music Conference (New York), Society for ElectroAcoustic Music In The United States National Conference (Miami), Indian Institiute of Technology TechFest (Mumbai), Noisefloor Festival (UK), International Saxophone Symposium  (Virginia), Technical University of Berlin (Germany), IUPUI Intermedia Festival (Indiana), Channel Noise 2 (Georgia) New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (New York), Silence Horror, Beauty Festival, (Florida), Conservatorio di Musica Latina (Italy), SoundLab VII (Germany), Asim’tria Festival  (Peru), BEAM Festival (UK), Audiograft Festival (UK), Electroacoustic Juke Joint (Mississippi), Electronic Music Midwest (Illinois), Electroacoustic Barn Dance (Virginia), Drift Station Gallery (Nebraska), Cal State Sacramento Festival of New Music (California), and Plains Art Museum (North Dakota), among others. Michael has received numerous awards including ASCAPLus Awards (2007-2012), a Ball State University Graduate Fellowship, and a Georgia Southern Research Award. Michael’s music, performance, and production can also be heard on more than a dozen albums spanning the genres of folk to pop, on both major and independent record labels. His music has been featured in films and television, including programs on MTV, VH1, E!, Spike, ABC, NBC, PBS, and CBS. He has shared the stage with acts such as Everclear, Semisonic, Violent Fems, Rick Springfield, Better Than Ezra, Eve6, and Josh Turner. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Minnesota State University where he studied composition with Henry Gwiazda, and a Master of Music from Georgia Southern University where he studied composition with John Thompson. Presently, Michael is a doctoral student at Ball State University where he studies with Michael Pounds and Keith Kothman.

His work focuses on the intersections of traditional instrumentation with various media such as video, interactive electronics, and multi-channel audio. His works have been performed at festivals and venues such as NYCEMF (New York), IIT Technology Festival (Mumbai), SEAMUS (Miami), Noisefloor Festival (UK), EMM(Illinois), International Saxophone Symposium (Virginia), FEAsT Festival (Florida), Electroacoustic Juke Joint (Mississippi),  Channel Noise (Georgia), and the ICMC(New York). Michael holds a M.M. from Georgia Southern University where  he studied composition with John Thompson, and is presently a doctoral student at Ball State University where he studies composition with Michael Pounds and Keith Kothman.
